ELAC Uni-Fi 2.0 UB52 – True 3-Way Performance with a Concentric Driver
The ELAC Uni-Fi 2.0 UB52 is a compact bookshelf speaker featuring a true three-way design. Its concentric midrange and tweeter assembly, dedicated aluminium woofer and internally reinforced cabinet are engineered to produce coherent, detailed and accurately focused sound.
It is an attractive choice for listeners who want to build a serious stereo system in a small or medium-sized room without accommodating large floorstanding speakers.
True three-way construction
Unlike a conventional two-way bookshelf speaker, the UB52 divides the frequency range between separate bass, midrange and treble drivers. This allows each unit to operate within a more suitable frequency range, reducing overlap and helping the speaker maintain clarity across complex musical passages.
The 25 mm soft-dome tweeter is mounted concentrically within the 100 mm aluminium midrange driver. One of the principal advantages of this arrangement is more consistent dispersion, precise stereo imaging and a stable soundstage across a wider listening area.
Dedicated aluminium woofer
Low frequencies are reproduced by a dedicated 130 mm single-piece aluminium-cone woofer. Its rigid diaphragm, oversized magnet and large-diameter voice coil are designed to provide accurate, controlled and dynamic bass reproduction.
With a specified low-frequency extension down to 46 Hz, the UB52 can operate as a complete stereo speaker. In larger rooms or home cinema systems, a suitable subwoofer can be added to extend the lowest frequencies further.
Front-firing bass reflex port
The bass reflex port is located on the front of the cabinet, allowing greater flexibility when positioning the speaker. The UB52 can be used on a shelf or placed closer to a rear wall more easily than many rear-ported alternatives.
For the best stereo imaging and bass balance, however, positioning the speakers on rigid stands and carefully adjusting their distance from the walls and listening angle is recommended.
Reinforced cabinet construction
Thick MDF walls and strategically positioned internal bracing reduce unwanted cabinet vibration that could otherwise colour the sound. The black ash vinyl finish gives the speaker an understated appearance that fits comfortably into both modern and traditional interiors.
Benefits from a capable amplifier
The UB52 has a nominal impedance of 6 ohms and a sensitivity of 85 dB. While it does not present an unusually difficult load, its moderate sensitivity means it will perform best with a stable stereo or AV amplifier capable of delivering adequate current.
With suitable amplification, the UB52 can provide a balanced, precise and well-organised presentation across a wide range of musical styles.
